Halloween Artists Newsletter - November 2008

We've all fallen back courtesy of daylight savings time and the days are definitely getting shorter. With our favorite holiday behind us (and we hope your Halloween was wonderful!), and the winter weather setting in across many parts of the country, it's best to remember that this is the month we try to be thankful for our blessings, both big and small. With all the talk about the current recession, that's not always easy to do, but, like the act of smiling, if you do it even when you're not in the mood, you may suddenly find yourself feeling better! So, too, acts of charity and gratitude will often produce the same effect...feelings of thankfulness and hope. And who can disagree that we all can use some extra benevolence in our lives?

So while some are planning to sit down to a traditional Thanksgiving spread, let's remember that others may be heating up a Swanson turkey TV dinner. This is the time when we all can pull together and find some small act, no matter our financial wealth, to help someone else in need. Donate to a homeless shelter, contribute canned goods to your church or school drives or just share a smile with a stranger on the street. Do good - feel good.

Mini-Spotlight on artist Laurie Vogel

Laurie remarks, "Art was my first true passion/love; I have loved making art from a very early age. I believe that the best way to learn art is to make it. Although I have formal art/design schooling, I believe myself to be self-taught.

I taught art for 10 years and worked two years in an art gallery. I have sold my art over the years through galleries and boutiques.

I have been selling OOAK Halloween costumes, often including hand-made masks on eBay since 2001 on my hautehunter site, which also features other goods.

I have been selling my Halloween art on eBay for over a year now, and would love to be making more of it!" Find more of Laurie's art by visiting her HalloweenArtists.com pages.

Halloween Artists call for columnists!
If you have the writing bug and enjoy writing about Halloween, art, decor or similar topics, we'd like to hear from you! We are lucky enough to have several multi-talented folks whose creativity includes not only creating art but writing fun and interesting columns for this site. We are always open to more ideas that would be of interest to our viewers and artists, so if YOU have a desire to write, please contact us with your suggestion for either a monthly column or a feature article! Thanks!

Halloween Art Raffle in the works!
A monthly raffle offering collectors the opportunity to acquire an original work of art by one of our Halloween artists got off to a slow start but will commence this month. We apologize for the delay and will be posting pictures of the prize shortly.

Everyone who donates at least $2.00 during the month will be entered into a drawing for the chance to win artwork worth much more! The value will vary each month, but each prize will be valued at $20 - $200 - so take a chance and donate at least $2 - you just may find yourself the winner of a wonderful Halloween collectible - and you'll be doing a good deed as well - helping this site continue to offer a home to artists and their work!

This site is operated completely on donations by its users!
