Now, the Halloween decorations stay out all
year long. I also collect old fortune telling items that I
display in my art space to keep the inspiration flowing.

Q. How long have you been an artist or
doing art?
A. In one form or another, I have been creating art
for as long as I can remember. I have been a professional
artist for a little over 20 years.
Q. What started you in your craft?
A. My mom is also an artist, and when I was a kid, we
would watch Bob Ross paint on TV. I learned to paint that
way, and after a few too many ‘little happy trees’ I
switched from oil to acrylic and my trees are now spooky! |

Q. Are there certain things that inspire
you to create?
A. I love to take old discarded items and recreate
them into useable art. Many times, the item ‘speaks’ to me
and I can just see it in its new life as a fun Halloween
decoration that someone will love.
Q. What are your favorite mediums or tools
to use in your art?
A. I enjoy pencil drawing and painting with acrylics.
I also love vinegar painting and sculpting with clay I make
myself. I usually let the project dictate the mediums that I
use—whatever will give the best effect for the result I am
going for.
Q. How did you come to be interested in Halloween art?
A. About 15 years ago, I started working at my
parents antique store that was housed in a big old Victorian
house with a wrap around porch. Every fall, they would fill
the porch with bales of hay, corn stalk bundles, pumpkins
and other seasonal décor. For fun, I painted faces on some
of the pumpkins and to my surprise, they sold like hot cakes.
The next year, people came back asking for my painted
pumpkins, so I painted and sold more. It wasn’t long before
I started getting requests for more permanent Halloween
painting, and I happily obliged. Chairs, lamps, ironing
boards, pie tins and anything else that didn’t run away
became my canvas. When we closed the shop, I had a big
enough local following, that I was able to continue the
Halloween art on Ebay and my own website. |
