Karen Harper

My name is Karen Harper and I live in a remote, mountainous
area of Washington State where the deer and the antelope
play - along with wild turkeys, bear, and rattlesnakes.
My father and his many brothers and sisters were all
artistic, so I grew up with an abundance of art materials,
was encouraged to use them and to take art classes as often
as I wished.
As an adult, I continue to participate in art workshops and
classes, but believe that I learn best by just getting busy
and "pushing the paint around".

I truly love all forms of art and if there were more hours
in the day, I would want to be creating art in every medium
possible. However, lately I have been trying to focus on
just a couple areas -- sculpting, mixed media, and fiber
art.
Halloween, and in particular witches and pumpkins, are a
favorite subject of mine.
The scale I prefer to work in is small - usually about 8 to
10 inches for sculptures, and ACEO size for drawings.
I work very slowly, spending many hours just thinking-up an
idea and how to create it.

I enjoy the process of creating, spending many happy days or
weeks on each piece and frequently working on more than one
creation at a time.
I have a real art studio where I am free to play, make
messes, and have all my art materials handy. For me, that is
the most important art "tool" in the world -- creative
space.
I am also grateful that I am able to spend time in the
studio nearly every day.
I sell my creations on eBay under the seller name idrawpix,
and have a blog
www.hopeintheheartofdarkness.blogspot.com .
